Amateur Radio Emergency Services of Brevard, Inc. , aka, Brevard County ARES® Team (BCAT) is a State of Florida Non-Profit, 501(c)3 Corporation which consists of licensed amateurs who have voluntarily registered their qualifications and equipment for communications duty in the public service when disaster strikes. Every licensed amateur, regardless of membership in ARRL or any other local or national organization, are eligible for membership in ARES®. The only qualification, other than possession of an Amateur Radio license and a sincere desire to serve. Because ARES® is an amateur radio service, only licensed amateur radio operators (Technician Class or higher) are eligible for membership. The possession of emergency-powered equipment is desirable, but is not a requirement for membership. Although this is the serious side of the hobby, our members enjoy the work we do for our served agencies. To join, just complete the the membership packet application. Amateur Radio Emergency Services, ARES®, is a program of the American Radio Relay League, and that entity will abide by the Rules and Regulations of the ARRL's Field Organization, as they may be amended from time to time, and by American Radio Relay League, ARRL, policies, rules, and guidelines contained in ARRL publications. We provide FEMA, CERT and ARRL trained volunteers, and the communication equipment needed, in order to deliver professional auxiliary communications utilizing Amateur Radio in times of emergency. And, to provide communications support for community events when requested. |
